Music Monday: "My Father's Eyes"

This week I have a song which I thought about during our Pastor's sermon in church this Sunday. He talked about the beginning of the Lord's prayer, and the verse in Matthew 6:9, which says, "Our Father in heaven..." People often say how a baby resembles it's father or mother. Well, I hope that I too will have eyes like my Father, my heavenly Father. I want to see the good in things, find the source of help, see every pain with His compassionate eyes, just as this song says. I am always told that I look like my mother. But I hope that I too have "my Father's Eyes."

Amy Grant "My Father's Eyes"

I may not be every mother's dream for her little girl,
And my face may not grace the mind of everyone in the world.
But that's all right, as long as I can have one wish I pray:
When people look inside my life, I want to hear them say,

She's got her Father's eyes,
Her Father's eyes;
Eyes that find the good in things,
When good is not around;
Eyes that find the source of help,
When help just can't be found;
Eyes full of compassion,
Seeing every pain;
Knowing what you're going through
And feeling it the same.
Just like my Father's eyes,
My Father's eyes,
My Father's eyes,
Just like my Father's eyes.

And on that day when we will pay for all the deeds we have done,
Good and bad they'll all be had to see by everyone.
And when you're called to stand and tell just what you saw in me,
More than anything I know, I want your words to be,

She had her Father's eyes,
Her Father's eyes;
Eyes that found the good in things,
When good was not around;
Eyes that found the source of help,
When help would not be found;
Eyes full of compassion,
Seeing every pain;
Knowing what you're going through,
And feeling it the same.
Just like my Father's eyes,
My Father's eyes,
My Father's eyes,
Just like my Father's eyes.
My Father's eyes,
My Father's eyes,
Just like my Father's eyes.

Matthew 6:8-10

Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

“This, then, is how you should pray:

“‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.

2 Chronicles 34:2
He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord and followed the ways of his father David, not turning aside to the right or to the left.

1 John 2:16
For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world.
